Three ways to capture the lead
Same goal, different amount of friction
Each flow identifies what's being sold and gets a name and contact detail — the difference is how much work that takes, and what it costs to build.
Registry lookup
One field. The plate or VIN is checked against a vehicle registry and the make, model and year come back automatically — the visitor confirms rather than types.
Best for — markets with an accessible registry API, like the UK's DVLA or US VIN decoding.
See the full UK implementation →Guided form fields
Year, make and model as simple dropdowns or free-text fields, alongside name and contact details. No external API, so it works in any market from day one.
Best for — a new market, or anywhere a lookup isn't worth building yet.
Single call-to-action
One button leading straight to a call or chat, rather than a form at all. Best when the goal is a conversation, not written data.
Best for — paid mobile traffic, or a seller who'd rather close over the phone.
Common questions
Landing pages, answered
What makes a car dealership landing page convert?
Identifying the vehicle before asking for anything else, keeping the form short, and giving the visitor one clear action. A landing page that makes someone type out their car's details from scratch loses people; one that recognises the car and asks them to confirm it feels far less like work.
Which landing page flow should I use for my market?
If your country has an accessible vehicle registry API, a lookup flow gives the strongest conversion — the UK's DVLA is free, and the US equivalent (VIN decoding via NHTSA) is also free, though it needs a VIN rather than a plate. If no such lookup is worth building yet, guided form fields are the safe universal default. A single call-to-action suits traffic you'd rather close over the phone than capture in writing.
Is a vehicle registry lookup available outside the UK?
It depends on the country. The UK's DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service is free and public. The US has no free plate-lookup equivalent, but the NHTSA's VIN decoder is free and public if the visitor has their VIN to hand. Other markets vary — where no free option exists, guided form fields are the practical starting point.
Can I switch flows later, or combine them?
Yes. A common approach is to lead with a lookup where one is available and fall back to guided form fields automatically if the vehicle isn't found — which is exactly how the UK implementation already behaves for unmatched plates.
Why build a separate landing page for each make and model?
A page written for "sell your Porsche 911" ranks and converts better than one generic "sell your car" page, because the copy, guide content and FAQ all speak directly to that model rather than to cars in general — both for search and for the visitor reading it. This applies whichever capture flow the page uses.
